Small Side Table (S1)
6-week Intermediate Woodworking Course
- 500 US dollars$500
- 9th Street
Larger furniture projects offer a number of new challenges for fledgling woodworkers. In this 6-week class, students will expand their basic woodworking skills by tackling larger pieces of lumber, more complex joinery, panel glue-ups, and moving parts while building a small side table. These skills will be foundational for any larger woodworking projects that students may pursue in the future. In this class, students will build a small side table out of cherry. There is a small amount of flexibility in the tabletop dimensions and table height, but individual students will be responsible for making all necessary adjustments to the overall dimensions if they choose to deviate from the original design. This class is suitable for students who have taken one of our introductory woodworking classes. Students will need to be comfortable with using the miter saw, jointer, planer, and table saw to mill lumber and cut it down to size on their own. SKILLS REQUIRED Cutting rough lumber on the compound miter saw Planing lumber on the planer Jointing lumber on the jointer Ripping lumber on the table saw Cross cutting lumber on the table saw Using a hand drill SKILLS TAUGHT Cutting tapered legs on the table saw Cutting mortise and tenon joints with hand tools Cutting mortise and tenon joints with a router Gluing up and surfacing panels Using a doweling jig Assembling larger pieces of furniture Leveling a table ATTENDANCE / MAKE-UP POLICY During this class, students will have access to the shop during class time only.
