Plaster Mold Making (4 Week)

4 week intensive for those wanting to make a plaster mold for slip casting

315 US dollars
9th Street

Service Description

Tuesdays 6-9pm October 7-28 This 4-week plaster mold making course is designed for students who already have a specific object in mind to create a mold. Students must meet with the instructor or get email confirmation of their object by the end of the first class. The class is best suited for people with intermediate ceramic skills who want to expand into mold-making and slip casting. On the first day, the instructor will lead a thorough two-part mold-making demo, covering everything from plaster mixing to demolding. Students will work at their own pace for the next two weeks with hands-on guidance to create their own 1, 2 or 3 part plaster mold. Because the course is only 4 weeks, we will likely not begin casting until Week 4. Students should expect to cast from the molds and complete their pieces in their own open studio time here or elsewhere outside of the course. By the end of the class, each student will complete at least one functional mold of their chosen, fabricated, or made object, gaining a strong foundation in slip casting that they can apply to future projects.
