Service Description

Thursdays 6:30pm-9:00pm, June 26th - August 7th (no class July 3rd) Wheel Throwing and Handbuilding joins Woodworking in this intermediate class at SoMa. 4 weeks will be spent making a lamp shade on the clay side. 2 weeks will be spent working in the woodshop assembling the bracket to hang on the wall. This class will teach you the skills that will advance your wheel throwing and handbuilding skills and an introduction to the machine side of woodworking. This is a fast paced class and attendance at each class is highly recommended as each class will build on the last. Each student will walk away with a functional lamp with a ceramic shade and wooden bracket. All materials included (lamp hardware included). Ceramics side: Week 1 (June 26th): Design + Throwing Lamp Shades Week 2 (July 10th): Handbuilding Lamp Shades Demo Week 3 (July 17th): Trimming Lamp Shades and Adding Hole Week 4 (July 24th): Glazing / spray booth glaze demo Wood side: Week 5 (July 31st): Work day in woodshop to build the hanging bracket Week 6 (August 7th): Work day! Finish bracket and assemble lamp!
