Service Description
Fridays @ 3:00-5:30pm, September 26th - October 31st In this immersive gardenware design class, participants will embark on a journey to infuse life into their garden. Focusing on the art of crafting cohesive themes, we'll delve into the realm of planters, bird feeders, and watering vessels, transforming them into captivating pieces that harmonize with nature and each other. Through a blend of hands-on practice, creative exploration, and expert guidance, students will learn the techniques needed to elevate their gardenware creations to new heights. Week 1 Throwing Consistently/ Planters Goals; Learn techniques for throwing consistently with min. 2lbs of clay. Discuss developing creative style and documenting your work/gathering inspiration on making your work unique. *instructor to show examples of a variety of watering cans, pitchers, planters, etc. Demos; throwing bigger (2.5lbs +) & throwing “one-stop-pot” & hanging planters Week 2 Bird Houses: “This one is for the birds” Goals; Learn techniques for creating a closed form bird house & a bird feeder *instructor to show examples of a variety of options for housing birds. Demos; throwing 1-2 lbs (min) closed forms for bird house & bottle-neck plate for bird feeder Week 3 Trimming unique shapes: Goals; Goals; trim the previous weeks pieces and prep for final project (watering can) Demos; trimming on a chuck for unique shapes & carving out bird house - attaching perth (wood or ceramic) Week 4 Watering Can &/or pitcher Goals; Learn how to throw large cylinders via 1 throw OR stacking. Inform the class these forms are a baseline for other forms (teapot, large vases, throwing bigger!) Students to walk away with at least 1 large vessel (2 would be great) Week 5 Trimming & additions to large pots Goals; Students will have seen an example of attaching the pieces to their watering can the week prior, another reminder on throwing the neck, spout, and handles will be helpful. Otherwise the goal of the class is to finish the pieces needed to attach to the watering can *clean* attaching. Week 6 Glazing and Potluck Goals; Glaze everything and have fun! Demo spray booth & surface design All-inclusive including: - 25lbs of clay -6-weeks of 2.5 hours of instruction - Unlimited use of studio during open studio hours - Firing fees - Glazes
