Expressive Figure Sculpting (Sep/Oct)

Service Description
Tuesdays @ 5:45-8:15PM, September 22 - October 27 w/ Isabella https://isabellaamaya.my.canva.site/#sculpture In this 6-week course, students will learn the sculpture and hand-building process by making maquettes and then a figure or portrait! This could be a self-portrait, a general study of anatomy, or get expressive and add your own styles or “chimera” features. Tools & Materials: Please bring a sketchbook to plan and record your progress! Feel free to bring any tools you may already have and want to use. If you have any reference photos, please bring printed copies. Week 1: Introduction, Techniques, Maquettes In week 1, students will learn handbuilding and slab techniques, gain inspiration through a crash course into sculptural stylization, and start to brainstorm their project - including some miniature maquettes! Week 2: Project part 1: Getting started! We will build our internal armatures and get started on the figures! Work time and individual consultation. Week 3: Project part 2: Dive deeper into refining your work, and learn how to hollow out and piece back together. Work time and individual consultation. Week 4: Project part 3: (last week for greenware!) Finalize your features, add on final pieces, and get expressive and detailed! Your piece will need time to dry out so it can be fired in time for next week’s glazing. At this time, underglaze is encouraged. Work time and individual consultation. Week 5: Glaze day! Learn all about glazes, finishes, and different application techniques! Work time and individual consultation. Week 6: Group potluck and constructive critique. Discuss projects, reflect, receive and give feedback! Please bring your sketches/maquettes to showcase the progress of your project over the last few weeks. Includes- 25lbs of clay - 6-weeks of 2.5 hours of instruction - Unlimited use of studio during open studio hours - Firing fees - Glazes
