Ceramics Water Fountains (Session 3)

Service Description
Mondays 6-8:30pm, March 30th - May 4th Fountains have long shifted between utility and ornament. In many cities they began as public water sources, today they can function as decorative outdoor landmarks and indoor living sculptures. Join Kiran Joan for a 6-week class focused on designing and building ceramic water fountains. Students will learn handbuilding techniques for constructing functional fountain forms and will have access to underglazes for illustration and surface design. By the end of the course, students will glaze and assemble a working fountain. Schedule Week 1: Introduction to fountains, students will arrive with ideas and begin building Week 2: Continue building, Students finish work in greenware stage Week 3: Sketch illustrations. Begin underglaze/slip illustration on fountains. Send to Bisque Week 4: Glazing and learning techniques of wax application to the fountains. Week 5: Glazing and surface refinement. Week 6: Assembling fountains!
