Service Description
SIGN UPS OPEN FRIDAY MAY 8th at 11am! Friday (July 10th): 7pm Artist Talk - Free and open to the public! Saturday (July 11th): 10am-6pm w/ 1 hour lunch break Sunday (July 12th): 10am-6pm w/ 1 hour lunch break Clayroom SoMa; 375 9th Street In this two-day workshop with ceramic artist Theo Hirschfield, students will explore techniques that Theo has developed for building large sculptural forms on the wheel. Theo will guide students through each stage of the process, including design planning, spiral wedging, centering larger amounts of clay, throwing and stacking, trimming, drying, altering, attaching, texturing, and refining. Day 1: Demonstrations on spiral wedging, throwing and stacking, throwing attachments and chucks, followed by guided studio time to develop individual projects. Day 2: Focus on trimming, assembling, and refining sculptures, with discussion on drying and firing large-scale forms. What’s included: -25 lbs of Clay, hands-on instruction from Theo, firing services, tools. ** We recommend your own tools but we have some tools that can be borrowed if needed!
