Service Description

Thursdays @ 6:30 - 9pm, February 20th - March 27th (Week 5 meeting at the Potrero Hill studio on Saturday March 22nd @ 3pm). This class teaches students to create ceramic charms and beads using a variety of hand-building techniques. Students will explore surface decoration methods, glaze application, and firing processes. By the end of the course, students will have four unique ceramic jewelry pieces (necklaces, earrings, and bracelets) and any extra suitable for jewelry-making or other creative projects. Also, the opportunity to try gold luster firing will be in week 5. Week 1 - Present physical and printed examples, and create firing racks/stands for charms and beads. Also, Create cookies/bowls for bisque. Sketch designs, start planning what you want to make Week 2 - Start making charms and beads - demo slab roller, correct hole placement, hole size, shapes Week 3 - Greenware surface design, texture with stamps and sgraffito Week 4 - Glazing, bisque surface design demos Week 5 - Luster firing - Located at Potero (week 5 meets on Saturday 3/22 instead of Thursday 3/20) Week 6 - Jewelry assembly - bring recycled or found materials for enhancing jewelry, findings for assembly **week 5 will meet at Potrero on Saturday 3/22 at Potrero 3pm** All-inclusive including: - 1/2 bag of clay -nichrome wire, jewlery making tools, gold lustre (students will need to bring their own vapor mask for lustre application.) -6-weeks of 2.5 hours of instruction - Unlimited use of studio during open studio hours - Firing fees - Glazes
