Service Description

Sundays 11am - 1:30pm, November 9th - December 21st (no class 11/30) This immersive 6-week course is focused on teaching the fundamental techniques to make various vase forms. This course is appropriate for all potters Beginner - Intermediate level. There is an option for intermediate students to scale up and/or work in porcelain. The practice throughout this course aims to strengthen general throwing skills. Vase forms are one of the most challenging pots to throw and cover a wide range of techniques, all of which will be covered in detail. Demonstrations of every stage of the process will be shown and 1-on-1 instruction will be given to every student. This course is ideal for potters looking to challenge themselves and elevate their craftsmanship. To qualify for this course students must have taken Intro to Clay at least once. (Week 1) - Cylinder demonstration, basic vase (urn style) demonstration with collaring emphasis, pieces will be cut in half and cross-sections analyzed and discussed (Week 2) - Bottle vase demo, Bubble vase demo, scaling up techniques discussion / demo (Week 3) - Flower vase demo, student choice vase demo, throwing practice, trimming demo (Week 4) - Last throwing day: round vase demo, 1-on-1 focused instruction (Week 5) - Trimming demonstration with chuck (Week 6) - Glazing, spray booth demo All-inclusive including: - 25lbs of clay - 6-weeks of 2.5 hours of instruction - Unlimited use of the studio during open studio hours - Firing fees - Glazes
