Wednesdays @6:30-9 pm, September 25th - October 30th Ever saw a lamp at a store and wish that you can recreate that yourself or make it better? Let's get funky building sculptural lamps. This class is an opportunity for you to make a sculpture and a functional show stopping piece for your room. You will advance your sculpting skills to the next level to create unique sculptural pieces with working artist, Jo Ko. This class is great for intermediate hand builders who want to make more complex experimental forms. Week 1: Handbuilding Introduction Techniques and Concepting Mockups Brainstorm and build miniature mock-ups, Learning intermediate handbuilding techniques (Coil building and slab building), Shaping forms more efficiently, Consider how the interior structure fit a power cord and light bulb Week 2: Start Building and Learn Attachments, Slip and score techniques and creating supports, Start building, Students will build test tiles for glaze testing Week 3: Finish Up First Lamp and Can Start Another Lamp Piece, Demo carving textures on slab, Refine existing forms and continue building, Students that have finished their pieces can create a second lamp, Students load their test tiles and prototypes for first firing Week 4: Underglaze, Glaze and Spray Booth Demo, Demo glazing using studio glazes and having clearance at the foot of all pieces, Finish final touches or details of all projects, Students should glaze their test tiles Week 5: Last Week to Complete All Your Lamp Forms, First lamp should be ready to be unwrapped for drying, Second lamp needs to be completed Week 6: Glaze day Level: Intermediate handbuilding Materials Included: 25lbs clay, tools, slips, firing, 6 weeks of instruction, light bulb, and lamp wiring parts. Note: Maximum scale is at 14 inches tall and wide for project pieces.
