Tuesdays 6:30-9pm starting September 23rd - October 28th An Introduction to printing on clay which includes lithography and screen printing with underglaze. This is a unique new class which will advance your ability to add a personalized touch to your pottery. This class is ideal for students with some ceramics experience who are looking to create more unique surface designs. Week 1: Slab Building and Overview Slab Building Tutorial, building big Brief overview of Lithography Gathering images Make flat pieces to keep leather hard Plates, slab built vases, bottles, etc. Brief overview of Screen Printing Create designs for screens (instruction handout) Send to me by 3rd week of class Different applications for screens Make straight sided pieces Slabs, non-curved items like cups without a belly Week 2: Lithography Show examples Demo Mixing Ink Applying Gum Arabic Rolling on ink + dabbing Application to leather hard clay Week 3: Lithography Pt2 + Newsprint Transfers Make more Altering + Layering images Newsprint Transfers All screen printing designs are due this class Week 4: Screen Printing Show examples Demo Setting up screens Burning screens Rinsing and Drying Basic Printing Week 5: Screen Printing Pt2 Printing Thickening underglaze Printing directly on pieces, greenware or fired Printing on newsprint Week 6: Glazing/Finishing
