Service Description

Synopsis: Ever wonder why custom picture frames are so expensive? Learn the fundamentals of woodworking and joinery all while making beautifully made custom picture frames in this 6-week class. Students will learn- milling (planer and jointer), the table saw- straight and cross cuts, miter, dado cuts, spline and chamfering, the router table for rabbet inserts, glue-ups, and finishing. This class covers 2 types of joinery- miters and half-lap joints What’s completed in this class? 2 miter joint picture frames (1 will be completed with step-by -step instructions with instructor the 2nd will be somewhat made independently. The 3rd project will be a lap joint photo size (5x7”) frame completed with step-by-step instructions. The flow is organized this way due to waiting periods for glue-ups, students moving at different speeds and removing bottlenecks on certain tools (i.e. tablesaw) SKILLS TAUGHT Cutting rough lumber on the compound miter saw Planing lumber on the planer Jointing lumber on the jointer Ripping lumber on the table saw Cross cutting lumber on the table saw Using the router table ATTENDANCE / MAKE-UP POLICY During this class, students will have access to the shop during class time only. In the event of an absence, students can make up their work during one of our office hours. The office hours schedule can be found on our woodshop calendar here: Students should communicate with their instructor about what work they need to complete to catch up before coming to office hours.
