Notes from the woodworking side: -- Turning the neck, the starting size will be 3"x3" and will need to be less than 6" long. This means that once turned the base of the neck will be under 3" so the lamp opening should be around 2 1/2" diameter. -- For the base the starting wood will be about 6.5" x 6.5" the base should be under 6" so that there can be a rim to go along with it. The base is optional so if you want to work on making different necks that is fine too.
