Service Description

6 Week Class; Tuesday's @6:30pm February 15th -March 22nd Includes all materials for classes. In this class, learn the safety basics of operating a lathe and make multiple projects including a rolling pin and bowls. Week 1: Learn the safety basics and get an overview of all the tools. Get an overview of the class curriculum. Dive into spindle turning and making beads and coves. Week 2: Quick recap of all the material covered in week 1. Start your first project of making a rolling pin. Week 3: Wrap up the project from week 2 and then start bowl turning. The instructor will be available to answer questions and help students. Week 4: Workweek for bowls + various projects. Covered concepts: various carving techniques (i.e. push, pull, scrape, scrape shear). Week 5: Finish 1st bowl and start second, larger bowl with more autonomy regarding the shape and design. Learn various sanding, burnishing techniques, and add an oil finish. Week 6: Workweek to finish up projects. *Due to limited woodworking staff, there will be no open studio access for the woodshop
