End Grain Cutting Boards (S1)
6-week Intermediate Woodworking Course
Service Description
If you take a look at the edge of any solid-wood piece of furniture, you will see the rings of the tree that this wood came from. This is called the end grain, the strongest part of a piece of wood that offers a glimpse into the history and life of a tree. End grain cutting boards combine the aesthetic and functional qualities of end grain to produce a piece that is as sturdy as it is beautiful. This class will cover the multi-step process of designing and constructing an end grain cutting board from start to finish. Students will construct two separate cutting boards, beginning with the basics before moving on to more complex design processes, such as mixing woods and incorporating multiple patterning techniques. Beginners and experienced woodworkers are welcome in this class. In addition to learning how to use the planer, jointer, table saw, plunge router, and drum sander, instruction will cover basic tree biology and dendrochronology.
