Service Description

Monday nights from 6:30-9:00pm, November 4th - December 16th Join us at The Clayroom SOMA during session 8 for an intermediate to advanced handbuilding class where you will hone techniques through the creation of a unique drink dispenser. In this course, we will dive into the history and cultural significance of ceramic drink dispensers from around the world, examining how these forms have evolved and become standardized. You'll develop your skills by designing and crafting your own personalized dispenser, along with a set of matching cups for a drink that holds special meaning to you, whether it be made up or reminiscent. This course offers a blend of technical skill development and creative expression, perfect for those looking to elevate their handbuilding practice. Week 1 - presentation of inspo (pinterest board linked) - Hump mold introduction, talk about how I start larger forms - Ideation time, consults Week 2 - presentation of qualities of different cups, drink ware standardization - Begin building your dispenser, you can think about design specifics as you work on the main form because the cups are what will really dictate what drink will be served. Week 3 - More hand building demos, coils, bands, slabs - How do we manipulate our vessel as it grows and refine it to be the shape we want? Different types of lids, flange talk Week 4 - Hand building cup demo, 3 different kinds, handles too! - Work day, consults Week 5 - Work day, individual help Week 6 Sgraffito, slip, pre bisque surface decoration conversation Week 7 Drink party, activate dispensers by making your favorite drink in your dispenser!
