March 28th 6-8pm

2 hours for up to 8 members

Add a magical personal touch to your clay or wood creations with laser cutting and engraving!

This introduction session covers the basics of working with a medium-power CO2 laser cutter.  After presenting the essentials of operating this equipment safely, we'll review the main ways to realize a design on this type of equipment.  This is primarily how to adapt design files, plus what types of materials are suitable to use (or not).  Each participant will get to create at least one small personalized item, to gain hands-on familiarity with running a quick project.  The initial focus will be a small wooden stamp for adding a maker's mark/logo to unfired clay projects.  Similarly, initials/logos can be marked directly on smaller wood items or parts of larger wood projects.

No prior experience is necessary, but some familiarity with vector graphics software (Inkscape, Adobe Illustrator, etc.) is helpful.  It will speed the flow if you can bring your own laptop (Mac or Windows).  Plus bring drawings or ideas of your own logo concept(s).
